Out with the old, in with … AGEE VPX (part 1)

In a previous blogpost I wrote about the announcement from Citrix regarding the Citrix Access Gateway Product Line Simplification. At the same time I just finished building a Proof of Concept for a customer of one of our consultancy partners that included the (soon to be End of Sales) Access Gateway VPX. So I quickly informed our partner of the announcement and we decided to implement the new AGEE VPX into the production environment for the customer.

Of course I was very excited to be working with the new appliance and become more familiar with the NetScaler productline, as the AGEE VPX shares the same code as the NetScalers do.

I did have the chance to get some hands on practice with the NetScaler during one of the attended Hands-on labs at Citrix Synergy, so I felt brave enough to take on this new challenge.

… And a challenge it would prove to be …

via Citrix EMEA communications.

Finally all physical and virtual Access Gateway appliances will be based on the NetScaler code and therefore share the NetScaler code-base whether you’re choosing the Access Gateway only functionality or the many additional functionality the NetScaler has to offer as well, like Load Balancing, GLBS, etc.

Time to once more get myself familiar with all the features and functionality the new product line has to offer …

Symptoms

If you Prohibit Logons Only from the App Centre on a Server and have NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users added to Local Remote Desktop Group , when you enable the Logon from App Center , the NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users group is removed from the Local Remote Desktop Group.

As a result none of the users are able to launch applications.

Cause

The issue is directed to Microsoft as this is evident on a Non Citrix Server which has Remote Desktop Services Role Installed.

Citrix Access Gateway 5.0 VPX two-factor authentication with SafeWord 2008

Bookmark and Share

As part of a XenApp implementation I was asked to implemented two-factor authentication for the Citrix Access Gateway 5.0 VPX with SafeWord 2008.

I had configured different authentications with the Access Gateway before, but had not yet faced the combination of SafeWord and the Access Gateway 5.0 VPX, so I started with some research on the net. Even though I did find some guides for the Access Gateway 4.6 VPX implementation, it took me some time (and additional explaination from a RADIUS expert) to get all the components working together.

So here’s my blog to share the knowledge and provide an implementation guide for the configuration of two-factor authentication with SafeWord 2008 on the Citrix Access Gateway 5.0 VPX.
